Should the Eid al-Adha prayer be performed earlier than the Eid al-Fitr prayer?

It is Sunnah to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer earlier to allow more time for the sacrifice (*Udhiyah*), and to delay the Eid al-Fitr prayer to allow more time for distributing the obligatory charity (*Sadaqat al-Fitr*). This is the madhhab of Al-Shafi'i and no opposition to it is known. This is supported by a report that the Prophet ﷺ wrote to 'Amr ibn Hazm to delay the Eid al-Fitr prayer and hasten the Eid al-Adha prayer, as the function of Eid al-Fitr is the *Fitr* charity, which precedes the prayer, and the function of Eid al-Adha is the sacrifice, which follows the prayer.
