Primary text

Fidgeting and playing with small stones while the Imam is delivering the sermon is disliked. This is based on the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Whoever touches pebbles has engaged in laghw (idle talk/action)", narrated by Muslim, which Al-Tirmidhi declared authentic. Laghw is defined as sin, as indicated by the verse: {And those who turn away from laghw} [Al-Mu'minun: 3]. Furthermore, fidgeting prevents deep concentration (khushū') and comprehension.
