Is it permissible for a traveler to abandon Jumu'ah prayer if he fears missing his traveling companions?

It is permissible for a traveler to abandon the Jumu'ah prayer if he fears missing his companions. This is considered one of the valid excuses that nullifies the obligation of both Jumu'ah and congregational prayer. This applies whether he is in his hometown intending to start the journey or is already elsewhere.
