Primary text

Attentive listening is mandatory if the supplication is legislated (Mashru'), such as supplication for believing men and women or for the just ruler. In this case, one must remain silent and listen.

Supporting text

If the supplication is for something else (unspecified or deemed illegitimate), listening is not obligatory because such a supplication lacks the required sanctity or status.
