What is the prescribed time for making up the Eid prayer if it is missed until after the sun has passed its zenith?
Chapter on the Two Eid Prayers
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
If a single person misses the Eid prayer until after the sun passes its zenith (Zawal), they may make up the prayer whenever they wish. This is because the missed prayer, when made up individually, is considered a voluntary act (tatawwu"), which can be performed at any time the person desires. This differs from the case where the Imam misses it, as that involves public assembly and the consensus of the people on the following day.

Ibn Aqil held that the missed Eid prayer must be made up only on the following day, drawing an analogy to a prior ruling. This view is rejected because the makeup prayer is voluntary and does not require the congregation necessary for the initial obligatory Eid prayer.
