Primary text

The prohibition of selling and the obligation to hasten take effect immediately after the call (Adhan) is made when the Imam ascends the minbar. This is based on the verse commanding hastening and forsaking trade after the call (Quran 59:9), and the historical practice during the time of the Prophet, Abu Bakr, and Umar. This ruling is tied specifically to the Adhan upon the Imam's seating, not merely the time of Zawal. This applies whether it is before or after Zawal.

Supporting text

A narration from Ahmad suggests that selling becomes prohibited at Zawal, even before the Imam sits on the minbar. This view is deemed invalid because the divine ruling is explicitly linked to the call (Adhan), not just the time, and the purpose is to enable reaching the prayer.
