Does the prohibition of selling and the obligation to hasten to prayer apply to those not addressed with the Friday prayer obligation?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
The prohibition of selling and the obligation to hasten (Sa'y) to the Friday prayer is exclusively specific to those upon whom the Friday prayer is obligatory. Therefore, this ruling does not apply to women, children, and travelers. The evidence for this is that God Almighty only prohibited selling for those commanded to hasten to prayer. Consequently, the prohibition does not encompass those not commanded to hasten. Furthermore, the prohibition of selling is conditioned upon avoidance of distraction from the Friday prayer, which is absent for these exempted parties.
