What is the recommended manner for the Imam to deliver the Khutbah (sermon)?

It is recommended that the Imam ascend a minbar (pulpit) to deliver the sermon so the people can hear. The Prophet used a minbar constructed for him. This is not obligatory; the Imam may preach while standing on the ground, a raised mound, a cushion, or his riding animal if necessary. The minbar should be situated to the right of the Qibla, following the Prophet's practice.
