When is the recommended time for Takbir during the day of Eid?
Chapter on the Two Eid Prayers
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
It is recommended to proclaim the Takbir loudly when leaving one's home for both Eid prayers until the Imam reaches the prayer site. People should listen quietly to the Imam's sermon except for the Takbir. Ibn Umar narrated that when he left his house for Eid, he would recite Takbir until he reached the Musalla (open prayer ground). This practice is narrated from Saeed bin Jubayr and Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla.

Regarding Eid al-Adha, the Takbir is absolute and restricted (i.e., following prayers) as well as unrestricted (at all times in the markets). For Eid al-Fitr, the established position attributed to Ahmad is that the Takbir is absolute and unrestricted. Abu Al-Khattab mentioned that for Eid al-Fitr, the Takbir starts from sunset on the eve of Eid until the Imam exits for prayer, according to one narration, which is also the view of Al-Shafi'i. Another narration suggests it continues until the Imam finishes the prayer.
