Primary text

The Friday Prayer consists of two rak'ahs following the sermon, and recitation is done aloud in both rak'ahs, reciting Al-Fatihah and another surah. There is no disagreement on this matter; Ibn al-Mundhir reported the consensus of Muslims that the Friday Prayer is two rak'ahs. This is supported by a narration from Umar stating, 'The prayer of Jumu'ah is two rak'ahs, complete and not shortened, upon the tongue of your Prophet.' (Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Majah).
