Primary text

If one overtakes the Imam during Jumu'ah and misses the prostration in the first rak'ah, and the Imam concludes the prayer, one must perform one prostration and then complete three more rak'ahs, resulting in four rak'ahs total. This is permissible because one may follow an Imam performing Jumu'ah prayer, thus permitting the follower's prayer to be built upon the Imam's Jumu'ah intention, similar to the established jurisprudence regarding a resident praying behind a traveler, or one intending to be a follower completing the remaining rak'ahs individually after the Imam finishes. However, it is not valid to initially intend Dhuhr behind someone praying Jumu'ah, neither at the start nor during the prayer.
