What is the ruling regarding women reciting Takbir in seclusion?
Chapter on the Two Eid Prayers
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
There are two narrations regarding the Takbir of women when they pray individually, similar to the ruling on men. Ahmad supported the view that women should only recite the Takbir during the days of Tashreeq if they are in a congregation, a position he favored after being questioned by Ibn Mansur regarding the opinion of Sufyan. Furthermore, it is incumbent upon women to lower their voices during recitation so that men do not hear them.
Supporting text
Another narration from Ahmad suggests that women do not recite the Takbir at all because Takbir is a form of remembrance (*dhikr*) that requires raising the voice, and thus, it is not legislated for them in the same manner as the call to prayer (Adhan).
