Primary text

The Ghusl requires an intention because it is a pure act of worship. If one performs a single Ghusl intending both the Jumu'ah and the major impurity (Janabah), it suffices them. This is the established position of Ibn Umar, Mujahid, Makhul, Malik, al-Thawri, al-Awza'i, al-Shafi'i, and Abu Thawr.

Supporting text

If one performs Ghusl for Janabah without intending the Jumu'ah Ghusl, there are two views. One view states it is insufficient, based on the principle that 'For every person is what they intended.' The second view states it suffices, as the purpose of cleaning is achieved, and some narrations mention 'Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday, the Ghusl of Janabah.'
