Primary text

It is desirable to recite Surah Al-Jumu'ah in the first rak'ah and Surah Al-Munafiqun in the second rak'ah. This is the position of Al-Shafi'i and Abu Thawr, based on the narration that Abu Hurayrah recited these two surahs, stating he heard the Messenger of Allah recite them on Friday. It is also considered good to recite Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the second rak'ah, as narrated from Al-Nu'man ibn Bashir regarding the Prophet's practice. Furthermore, reciting Surah Al-A'la in the first rak'ah and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the second is good, as the Prophet performed this when Eid and Jumu'ah coincided. Following the practice of the Prophet is preferred, and reciting any valid portion is permissible, given that Surah Al-Jumu'ah is appropriate due to its content mentioning the day and urging attendance.

Supporting text

Malik stated that while the narration supports Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the second rak'ah, the established practice he observed was reciting Surah Al-A'la. Abu Bakr 'Abd al-Aziz favored reciting Surah Al-A'la in the second rak'ah, likely following the practice Malik observed.
