Is speech permissible when the preacher transitions to supplication (Dua) during the sermon?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
Speech is permissible when the preacher reaches the supplication phase of the sermon. This is permissible because the preacher has completed the formal sermon (Khutbah) and commenced a different act, analogous to descending from the minbar (pulpit).
Supporting text
It is suggested that speech is not permissible because the supplication is a follow-up or subordinate part of the sermon, meaning it inherits the obligations of the sermon itself, similar to prolonging the exhortation (Maw'idhah).
