When should the takbeers for the Eid prayer be performed in relation to recitation?
Chapter on the Two Eid Prayers
Al-Mughni
Book of Friday Prayer
Primary text
The recitation must occur after the *takbeerat* (extra takbeers) in both rak'ahs. This is affirmed by Ahmad, and reported from the seven jurists of Medina, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, and Al-Zuhri. The preferred sequence is that the additional takbeers are recited seven times in the first rak'ah before recitation, and five times in the second rak'ah before recitation, as supported by sound hadith from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr and 'Aishah.
Supporting text
There is a narration from Ahmad, supported by Abu Bakr, Ibn Mas'ud, Hudhayfah, and the People of Opinion, suggesting the sequence is to alternate between takbeer and recitation/supplication: Takbeer, supplication/praise, Takbeer, supplication/praise, etc., until the required number of extra takbeers is completed before bowing. However, the sounder evidence indicates recitation follows the set of additional takbeers.
