Primary text

There is no Sunnah for an Adhan or Iqamah for the Eid prayer. This is the position of Malik, Al-Awza'i, Al-Shafi'i, and the People of Opinion. It is established that the Prophet ﷺ prayed Eid without an Adhan or Iqamah, as narrated by Ibn 'Abbas and Jabir. Jabir ibn Samurah confirmed praying Eid with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ numerous times without Adhan or Iqamah. This consensus prior to the Umayyad practice is evident because when Ibn Zubayr instituted an Adhan and Iqamah, it was viewed as an innovation.

Some companions suggested calling out 'Al-Salatu Jami'ah' (The prayer is gathering), which is also the view of Al-Shafi'i.
