What is the evidence regarding Prophet Musa's (Moses) burial location?

Evidence for the virtue of sacred places concerning burial is derived from the supplication of Musa (peace be upon him) when death approached him. He asked Allah Almighty to bring him close to the Holy Land by the distance of a stone's throw. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stated, "If I were there, I would show you his grave near the red dune (Al-Kathib Al-Ahmar)." This narration is reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
