Is gathering for condolences (ta'ziyah) disliked?

Primary text
Gathering for condolence is disliked. Ibn Aqil stated that assembling after the soul has departed is disliked because it stirs up grief. Ahmad disliked offering condolences at the grave, except for those who had not yet offered condolences, in which case one may offer condolences after the burial or before it. Ahmad also stated that one has the choice to hold the hand of the bereaved person during condolences or not to do so. If a man is observed to have torn his garment due to affliction, one should offer condolences and not abandon the truth for falsehood, although advising him against tearing it is good.
