Primary text
It is permissible for mourners to uncover the face of the deceased, kiss them, and weep. Jabir reported that when his father was killed, he uncovered his face and cried, and the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not forbid him. Aisha narrated that she saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, kiss Usaman ibn Maz'un while he was dead, to the extent that tears flowed from the Prophet's eyes. Similarly, Abu Bakr uncovered the Prophet's face, kissed him, and wept.
