It is permissible to stand at the grave after the deceased is buried to supplicate for them. This practice is supported by the actions of Imam Ahmad, Al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, and the practice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Evidence confirms that when the Prophet buried a person, he stood over the grave and commanded: 'Ask forgiveness for your brother and ask for him steadfastness, for he is now being questioned.' This hadith is narrated by Abu Dawud.
