Is it permissible to place saddles (sarj) upon graves?

It is prohibited to place saddles upon graves. This prohibition is established by the statement of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who cursed women who visit graves frequently and those who make mosques and place saddles upon them, as narrated by Abu Dawud and An-Nasa'i. If it were permissible, the Prophet would not have cursed those who did it. Furthermore, this act involves wasting wealth without benefit and an excessiveness in venerating graves, resembling the veneration of idols.
