Is it permissible to pray in one's own shroud material after using it for a period?

It is deemed acceptable for a person to prepare his shroud, use its material for prayer over several days, and then wash it to keep it specifically for the burial shroud. Ahmad found this practice to be good. The preference is for the garment used for prayer to be either new or freshly washed, with a dislike for wearing it in a manner that leads to its defilement.
