Is it permissible to remove the pubic hair (anah) of the deceased?

Primary text
One established view, citing Ibn Sirin, Malik, and Abu Hanifa, is that the pubic hair should not be removed because doing so necessitates uncovering and touching the private parts (awrah), which is prohibited except for an obligatory act, and the covering suffices without removal. A second transmitted view from Ahmad, supported by Al-Hasan, Bakr ibn Abd Allah, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, and Ishaq, states that removing it is recommended, based on the precedent of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas trimming a deceased's pubic hair, and because it is hair whose removal is Sunnah, thus resembling the mustache.

The first opinion is considered stronger because the mustache hair protrudes conspicuously and its removal does not require uncovering or touching the private parts. If removal is adopted, Ahmad preferred using a razor or scissors over depilatory cream (nurah) to avoid damaging the deceased's skin.
