Is it recommended to bury a martyr where he was killed?

It is recommended to bury the martyr where he was killed. Ahmad bin Hanbal based this ruling on the hadith narrated by Jabir, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated, "Bury the slain in the places where they fell." Ibn Majah also narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) commanded that the slain of Uhud be returned to their places of death.
