What items of clothing must be removed from a martyr before burial?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Funerals
Primary text
That which is not considered common public attire, such as leather, fur, and iron, must be removed from the martyr's garments. Ahmad holds that fur, soft leather shoes (*khuff*), and leather coverings must not be left on the body. This is the view of Al-Shafi'i and Abu Hanifah.
Supporting text
Malik maintains that fur, soft leather shoes, or padded garments should not be removed, citing the general hadith "Bury them in their clothes." He argues that the specific narration we possess is more particular and therefore takes precedence.
