How should a latecomer complete the missed Takbirs if they choose to make them up?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Funerals
Primary text
If the latecomer makes up the missed Takbirs, they must perform them consecutively without any accompanying remembrance (dhikr). This is narrated from Ahmad and attributed to Ibrahim. Ibrahim also stated that one should immediately say the continuous Takbirs even if the Imam has already stood up from that position.
Supporting text
If the latecomer joins the Imam during the supplication for the deceased, they follow the Imam in the supplication. When the Imam says the final Taslim, the latecomer should say Takbir, recite Al-Fatiha, then say Takbir, perform the prayer upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), say Takbir, and then say the final Taslim.
