Primary text

The precedence order for leading the funeral prayer, in the absence of the highest ruler (*Imam*), follows this sequence: first, the deputy appointed by the ruler; if there is no such deputy, then the deputy appointed by the previous deputy in leadership matters. This is exemplified by Al-Hussain yielding to Sa'id ibn Al-Aas, who was appointed by Mu'awiyah. If neither exists, the ruling judge (*Hakim*) takes precedence.
