Primary text
Ahmad stated that one should say: 'Al-Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah' (Peace be upon you and the Mercy of Allah). It is reported from Ali bin Sa'id that saying just 'Al-Salamu Alaykum' is sufficient. Ali bin Abi Talib is reported to have performed a single Taslim to his right, saying: 'Al-Salamu Alaykum' after praying over Yazid bin Al-Mikfaf.
