After the funeral prayer is performed, one must hasten the burial. The burial should be expedited. If there is hope that the guardian (*wali*) of the deceased will arrive, the burial is postponed until the guardian comes, unless there is a fear that the body will change (decompose).

Ibn Aqil stated that one should not wait for anyone regarding the burial because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said regarding Talha ibn al-Bara: 'Hasten with him, for a Muslim corpse should not be kept amongst his family.' This indicates immediate burial is the rule.
