Primary text
Raising the voice near a funeral procession is disliked (*makruh*) due to the prohibition by the Prophet (peace be upon him) against following a funeral with a raised voice. Ibn al-Mundhir reports that the Companions of the Messenger of Allah disliked raising the voice during three occasions: at funerals, during remembrance (*dhikr*), and during battle. Al-Hasan also narrated from the Companions that they preferred lowering the voice during these three instances.
