Primary text
It is recommended for one following the funeral procession to be humble, contemplate their final destination, and take heed from death and the fate of the deceased. One should refrain from discussing worldly matters and laughing. Sa'd ibn Mu'adh stated that he never followed a funeral without his thoughts being entirely occupied with what was being done to the deceased. A predecessor strongly admonished a man who was laughing while following a funeral, stating he would never speak to him again.
