It is recommended to select the finest and largest shrouds. The first layer spread out must be the most beautiful, as it will be the visible exterior, akin to how the living display their finest garments. Hanoot (perfume/incense) is placed on this outermost layer. The second layer, which should also be fine and spacious, is placed over the first, and Hanoot and camphor are placed upon it. The third layer is spread over the preceding two, with Hanoot and camphor placed upon it. No Hanoot is to be placed on the face of the uppermost shroud, nor on the bier (Na'sh). This practice follows the instruction of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), who stated, "Do not place Hanoot upon my shrouds."
