What is the requirement for the washer touching the private parts and the rest of the body?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Funerals
Primary text
The washer must wrap a cloth around his hand to cleanse the private parts, as looking upon the private parts is forbidden, and touching them is more deserving of prohibition. He must remove any impurity from the body, beginning this process as a living person begins their Ghusl (major ablution) from ritual impurity. It is recommended that the rest of the body not be touched except by means of a cloth.
Supporting text
The jurists of our school recommend using two cloths: one for the passage ways and another for the rest of the body. If the deceased is a pregnant woman, her abdomen must not be pressed to avoid harming the fetus, based on the tradition instructing that if the deceased woman is pregnant, she should not be moved.
