What is the ruling on following the funeral procession of a deceased non-Muslim relative?

If a Jewish or Christian person dies, and they have a Muslim son, the son should ride an animal and walk in front of the funeral procession until the burial, and then turn back. This is stated in accordance with the opinion of 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.
