What is the ruling on following funeral processions (Jana'iz)?

Primary text
Following the funeral procession is a Sunnah, based on the command of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. This following encompasses three levels. The first level is praying over the deceased and then departing. Zayd ibn Thabit stated that once one prays, they have fulfilled what is required of them. The second level is following the procession until burial, remaining until the interment is complete. The reward for this is two Qirats, equivalent to two great mountains, as opposed to one Qirat for just praying over it, based on the authenticated Hadith. The third level is remaining after burial to supplicate for the deceased, asking Allah for steadfastness for them, and requesting mercy for them, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would stand after burying a deceased person and instruct others to ask Allah for forgiveness and steadfastness for him as he is currently being questioned.
