Is sitting on a grave disliked?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Funerals
Primary text
Sitting on a grave, leaning against it, resting against it, or walking upon it is disliked (makruh). This ruling is supported by the hadith of Jabir, and the sound hadith of Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi, which states: 'Do not sit upon graves, nor pray towards them.'
Supporting text
Imam Ahmad disliked the interpretation suggested by Imam Malik that the Prophet's prohibition against sitting on graves applied only to relieving oneself (for evacuation).
