Primary text

If the deceased is a child, the supplication for forgiveness is replaced with: 'O Allah, make him a forerunner (Faratan) for his parents, a provision (Dukhiran), a precursor (Salafan), and a reward (Ajran). O Allah, make their scales heavy with him, and make their rewards great. O Allah, place him in the custody of Ibrahim, join him with the righteous predecessors of the believers, reward him with Your mercy from the torment of the Hellfire, and substitute for him a home better than his home, and a family better than his family. O Allah, forgive our predecessors, our forerunners, and those who preceded us in faith,' or similar supplications.

The obligation is fulfilled by using any of the mentioned supplications or their equivalents; nothing specific is fixed or timed. Some companions of Ahmad reported that there is no prescribed supplication after the fourth Takbir, reasoning that if there were a legislated supplication, it would have been transmitted.
