Primary text

The application of Hanut (embalming spices) and perfume is not obligatory. This ruling is supported by the reasoning that these items are not obligatory for a living person, and therefore, they are not obligatory after death, as stated by Abu Abdullah ibn Hamid.

Supporting text

The view suggesting that Hanut might be obligatory is considered questionable because it is based on customary practice, which is not a sufficient basis for obligation, especially since custom also dictates improving the quality of the shroud, and improving the shroud is not considered obligatory.
