If the son dies, can his heirs demand repayment of the debt owed by the grandfather (the father)?

If the son dies, the debt transfers to his heirs, but they are not entitled to demand repayment from the father because their predecessor (the son) did not have the right to demand it, making them consequently deprived of that right.
