Primary text

Revocation of a gift is valid by stating phrases such as 'I have revoked it' (qad raj'tu fiha), 'I have taken it back' (irtaja'tuha), or 'I have reclaimed it' (irtadtaha), or similar words indicating revocation. This act does not require a judge's ruling. This position is held by Al-Shafi'i.

Supporting text

Abu Hanifa holds that revocation is not effective unless confirmed by a judge because the ownership of the recipient of the gift becomes firmly established.
