The Qadi ruled that it becomes unlawful for a lawful person to eat, analogous to the slaughtering of game, because breaking the egg serves as a substitute for slaughtering, evidenced by the fact that its consumption becomes lawful for a Muhrim if a lawful person breaks it for him.
