Primary text

Dissolution from Hajj occurs only through three means: completion of all rituals, dissolution upon confinement (Ihsar), or dissolution due to an excused reason if stipulated beforehand. Any other manner of dissolution is invalid. If a person merely intends to dissolve without proper cause or stipulation, they do not exit Ihram, and simply abandoning the Ihram does not invalidate it because it is an act of worship that cannot be exited through mere rejection, unlike other acts of worship. The state of Ihram remains binding, requiring adherence to its rules and penalties for any infractions committed.

Sexual intercourse invalidates the Hajj, requiring a camel penalty in addition to other due penalties, regardless of when the intercourse occurred relative to other infractions. The Hajj must still be completed after invalidation, and the pilgrim cannot exit the state of invalid Ihram. Some hold that an invalid Hajj should be converted into an Umrah, while others believe the invalidation completely releases the person from the Hajj obligation, based on the principle that 'whatever action is not upon our command is rejected.' However, the primary view is based on the general Quranic command to perfect Hajj and Umrah for Allah, supported by the practice of prominent Companions.
