Is an animal born without horns valid for sacrifice?
Chapter on Ransom (Fidyah) and Penalty for Hunting
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
An animal born without horns (*Jamma'a*) is valid for the sacrifice. This is because the horn is not the primary objective of the animal intended for sacrifice, and there is no prophetic prohibition concerning its absence.
Supporting text
It has been narrated from Ibn Hamid that an animal born without horns is not valid for sacrifice because the absence of horns is considered a greater defect than the loss of half the horn.
