Is bathing (Ghusl) recommended before the standing (Waqf) at Arafah?

Bathing for the standing at Arafah is recommended (Mustahabb). This was the practice of Ibn Mas'ud, and it is narrated from Ali. Al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, Abu Thawr, and Ibn al-Mundhir hold this view. The justification is that Arafah is a gathering place for people, so bathing is recommended, similar to Eid and Friday prayers.
