Bathing upon entering Mecca is recommended (mustahabb). This is supported by the practice of Abdullah bin Umar, who would bathe before entering Mecca during the day, attributing this practice to the Prophet, peace be upon him. Furthermore, Ibn Umar's practice included stopping the Talbiyah upon reaching the closest boundary of the Haram, spending the night at Dhul-Tuwa, praying Fajr, and then bathing. The rationale is that since Mecca is a gathering place for pilgrims, one should bathe upon intending to enter it, similar to bathing for Friday prayer. This is the position of the Shafi'i school. Notable figures who practiced this include Urwah, Al-Aswad bin Yazid, Amr bin Maymun, and Al-Harith bin Suwayd.
