Is a camel sacrifice (badanah) required for intercourse that invalidates Umrah?
Chapter on the Description of Hajj
Al-Mughni
Book of Hajj
Primary text
A camel sacrifice (badanah) is not required for sexual intercourse that invalidates Umrah. This is because Umrah lacks the essential element of standing (wuquf) present in Hajj, and because Umrah is considered lesser than Hajj, its required expiation must be lesser than that of Hajj.
Supporting text
Al-Shafi'i mandates a camel sacrifice (badanah) because Umrah involves Tawaf and Sa'i, equating it in nature to Hajj in this regard.
