Primary text

It is not a prerequisite for the Hady to combine animals sourced from both the Sacred Sanctuary (Haram) and outside it (Hill), nor is it required to stand (pause) with it at Arafah. However, these actions are recommended.

Supporting text

This view is reported from Ibn Abbas and supported by Al-Shafi'i, Abu Thawr, and the People of Opinion. Ibn Umar, however, considered only that which was distinctly designated as Hady to be valid. Malik held it is preferable for the Qārin (one performing both Umrah and Hajj) to drive his offering from the place of his initial Ihram, although if purchased from an area nearer to Mecca after standing at Arafah, it is valid. For the Hady of one who combines acts, if it was not driven from the start, he should purchase it in Mecca and then drive it out to the Hill and back to Mecca.
