Primary text

A pilgrim in 'Iḥrām' is prohibited from touching anything with perfume ('Ṭīb'). The Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded concerning the pilgrim whose riding animal was injured, saying, 'Do not touch it with perfume,' and another narration states, 'Do not embalm it.' Perfume is defined as that which possesses a pleasant scent and is used for smelling, such as musk, ambergris, camphor, ghāliyah, saffron, rose water, and perfumed oils like violet oil. If a pilgrim uses perfume, they incur the expiation (Fidyah), analogous to wearing forbidden clothing, because they utilized something prohibited by the state of 'Iḥrām'.
