Is the cost of the Mahram's Hajj incumbent upon the woman performing Hajj?

Primary text
The financial maintenance (*nafaqa*) for the Mahram accompanying a woman on Hajj is incumbent upon the woman. This ruling is affirmed by Ahmad because the Mahram's presence is part of the means (*sabil*) for her Hajj, similar to the provision of the riding animal. Consequently, her capacity (*istita'a*) to perform Hajj requires her to possess provision and a conveyance for herself and her Mahram. If the Mahram refuses to perform Hajj with her despite her providing his necessary expenses, she is treated as one who lacks a Mahram, as she cannot perform Hajj without one.
